Palliative Care House gets closer to the mark. BHA is currently working with Pippa Blackburn (WACHS - Sthn West Cancer & Palliative Care Service) to provide accommodation support to those people affected by a palliative illness in the South West.

This is the first of its kind in the South West and the home will soon accommodate palliative patients travelling to Bunbury for treatment.

This home will ease the burden for palliative patients who travel to Bunbury for treatment, some of whom are in financial stress caused by large medical bills.

Many of these people are ‘homeless’ or bankrupt and some families are living in temporary accommodation.

The House will assist patients that have to drive long distances to have somewhere to stay. SWPC are currently sourcing materials for a home refit and have had an encouraging number of local businesses pledge their valued support.

BHA was responsible for housing some of the Yanget Tenants who may have become homeless at the closing of Yanget Guest House. Because of this we have some single men sharing a large house.

Due to lack of cleaning and perhaps understanding of what was required to keep a rental property, they were breached and risked being evicted.

After the breach was issued, as per procedures, an inspection was carried out. Unfortunately the gents had still not attained the required reasonable state of cleanliness so in hopes of them retaining their tenancy with BHA it was suggested to get professional cleaners in and share the costs between them. In the meanwhile, we had a kind offer from ‘Bec’ from Volunteers South West for some furniture that was in good nick.

It was offered to ex Yanget tenants who quickly accepted and gave a hand having the furniture delivered to their house.

On next inspection, the new furniture was in position, the house was spic and span and the tenants’ chests were puffed with pride. The professional cleaners had not even attended. After reporting back to Management how well things have progressed, it was decided to offer them a one off lawn mowing service to get them on track in this area. Well done and keep up the good work.

I am very pleased to present the results of our tenant satisfaction survey. We distributed 48 forms (100%) to our entire tenancy range and received a total of 21 forms back which represents 44%.

It also needs to be noted that 52% of the above tenants access Support Services. The questions were directed at determining any issues that may need resolving or any areas needing improvement regarding Property Maintenance and the professionalism of BHA’s service provision. Overall 86% of tenants were very satisfied with the service. Another 10% of tenants were somewhat satisfied Whereas 4% declared a neutral response BHA can assume from the absence of negative responses and the overwhelming satisfactory responses that it is providing a professional, satisfactory service. BHA, did as a result of the survey, instigate a system of clearly stating its hours of Operation on the answering machine as well as on our office doors.

BHA is also committed to ongoing training of staff and reaffirming BHA policies during monthly staff meetings and other available avenues.

Strong Angels is a charitable organization based here in Bunbury that currently supports underprivileged children and their families in Bali in a variety of ways.

Strong Angels assists children that have no formal accommodation to live in a supportive environment in a hostel in Klung Klung.

The charity also assists children to go to school and helps them to attend higher education in the Bali district. This is all about a holistic development for people’s lives in communities that are struggling with the basics. BHA is looking to partner with Strong Angels to assist them with some IT and a possible web site. There are many other ways to assist these children you can contact or donate through:
